The Criminal Investigations Unit

The Criminal Investigations Unit or C.I.U. of the Belmont County Sheriff's Office handles all serious felony cases and long term, in-depth investigations of the Sheriff's Office. The unit is comprised of a Sergeant and three investigators and is divided roughly into four different investigative areas of responsibility.

 

Special Operations Team

The Special Operations Branch (S.O.B.) is the tactical element of the Belmont County Sheriff's Office which is responsible for high risk warrant executions, hostage rescue situations, dignitary and court protective details, high risk surveillance operations, capture of high risk fugitives and any other incident that poses a substantial threat to public and officer safety.

 

THE COLOR GUARD and THE PIPE & DRUM BAND

The Belmont County Sheriff's Office Color Guard is a ceremonial parade unit which represents the Sheriff's Office at various events throughout Belmont County and the region.
 

THE MOUNTED PATROL

The Belmont County Sheriff's Office Mounted Horse Patrol is made up of eight (8) members of the office who are Ohio certified with their horses as Mounted Patrol units.

 

RESERVE UNIT

In the early days of the Office of Sheriff, the Sheriff was the lone law enforcement officer covering large areas of land alone or perhaps with one deputy. In those days the Sheriff depended on his ability to gather posse's of concerned citizens to assist him in his duties.

 

Electronic Sexual Offender Registration/Notification

State of Ohio mandatory registration of sexually oriented offenders in Belmont County through the E-SORN network, and for notification of the presence of these individuals to local law enforcement, school officials, etc., as well as ascertaining their whereabouts in the community and verifying the accuracy of information provided by them.
